This mandatory refresher course is designed to re-train and re-certify currently accredited Asbestos Inspectors. The curriculum focuses on a review of key inspection procedures, recent regulatory updates, and emerging health and safety information. Participants will refresh their knowledge of how to determine the presence, location, and quantity of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in buildings, including hands-on practice with sampling techniques and the development of inspection reports. The course emphasizes the current standards and regulations set forth by the EPA, OSHA, and relevant state agencies.

Curriculum:

Types of asbestos, history of use, and health effects.

Changes to EPA AHERA, NESHAP, and OSHA standards.

Systematic walk-throughs, suspect ACM identification, and sampling strategies.

Proper techniques for bulk sampling, including safety and minimizing fiber release.

Inspector role, limitations, and potential legal issues.

Completing the inspection report and interpreting laboratory results.

Review of respiratory protection, protective clothing, and decontamination procedures.
